How did Algeco evolvo over time?
Algeco was founded on 19 December 1955 by Jean‑Pierre Bruggeman and Jean Thomachot in Mâcon, France. Its original business was quite different: selling raw materials like flour, sugar, cement, coal, wine, and vehicles. Very soon, prefab construction became a focus. The mid‑1950s saw the launch of early modular units – for example the “Bulle 2002,” a ~9 m² plastic unit that could be connected to others. This was an early sign of Algeco’s core direction.
Over time, Algeco expanded its product range (sizes, functionality, finishes) and its geographical reach. It serves multiple countries in Europe (Belgium, Netherlands, UK, Germany, Nordics, etc.), as well as beyond. In 2019, the company strengthened its presence in the Netherlands by acquiring BUKO Huisvesting and BUKO Bouw & Winkels, expanding both its capacity and client reach. Algeco now operates as part of the Modulaire Group, a larger international organisation that brings together leading modular building brands across Europe. In the Nordics, several local modular construction companies were integrated under the Algeco name to streamline offerings, enhance customer service, and deliver greater value across the region.
